Nice tea set at a reasonable price. I ordered this mainly for the purple bamboo whisk, shovel and whisk stand which I couldn't order without a bowl at the time. The bowl is made of heavy, espresso-colored ceramic that goes well with dark bamboo pieces. The whisk stand is made of high-quality ceramic with a glossy glazed surface. My kit also included an envelope with samples of Matcha tea. It's a bit of a boring but nice introduction to matcha if this set is bought as a gift. Pleased with the quality and looks, however the bowl is a little smaller than all my other matcha chawans that I have purchased separately. If you like making latte, this bowl is too small as the tea/milk spills out everywhere when whipped. See photo for size difference. **Also I emailed the seller asking if it was dishwasher safe as there were no care instructions in the box or on the bottom of the bowl but never got a reply. I suggest hand washing it to be safe. UPDATE OCTOBER 2018: Despite meticulous maintenance of my matcha whisks (I have 2), the Chasen stand has NOT prevented mold growth. The tines turn greenish-black and black spots grow on the underside of the handles. I ALWAYS rinse them thoroughly after each use and wipe dry before placing them on the rack. I'm switching to a stainless steel flat-bottomed whisk as the stand can't prevent bamboo toxicity. Very disappointing.
