Cheap product misses the mark

The 8w power gives a good range but overall the GT-3TP feels very light and cheap, not sturdy. Programming is identical to that of the UV-5R series radios. It's fine if you're already used to the confusing menu items and CHIRP software, but it's just as clumsy and unintuitive as ever. Battery life is good. They come with BL-5, 7.4V, 1800mAh. This is the same as the battery in the UV-5R series radio and appears to be compatible. These batteries have an ergonomically rounded body, which is nice. The radiooddity antenna is thin and weak. When I opened the box, it was already bent. The fit and finish is pretty tacky, the battery didn't fit properly, the case walls didn't fit together well. Poor build quality rarely guarantees longevity. I should be able to rely on that when I'm in remote areas. The plastic cover on the SP/MIC connector flips in the wrong direction. So when you plug in a headset, that lid sticks out at an odd angle, gets caught in your pocket, and eventually rips off. In comparison, the UV-5R's cover folds back so it stays flush with the headset jack. The external microphone/speaker (BF-S112) is very small and difficult to hold if you have man hands. The PTT button has a disgustingly loud click. Classic CB or ham mics feel comfortable. You will not confuse this cheap microphone with a good classic microphone. That's rather disappointing and unfortunately the dual jack socket doesn't make it easy to use an alternative microphone with the radio. Overall I don't think this product is worth the price. If you're switching from a Baofeng UV-5R and thinking "hey, this one has more power and rounded corners", save your money and look for something better.
