Lock failed on first use. I had to

I put it on my truck in the fall of 2019. This week I went for shooting for the first time, but the lock does not open. No signs of corrosion or anything since the cover was on. I struggled with it for a long time and eventually gave up. I grabbed a short pipe from the garage, stuck it on the end and broke off for half a second. Went down to the car zone and just grabbed a standard pin. Of course I was upset that I bought this thing and it ended up breaking and I had to break it and buy another one, but besides, what good is a lock if it's broken to me like a branch?
