XPEL stickier than 3M - both good and bad - Installing a very curved headlight

I installed XPEL on the passenger side headlight and 3M on the driver side of a 2008 Sienna (very curved headlight). Both were very similar to applying window tint using an aqueous solution with a few drops of soap. The 3M slides open easily, allowing you to work on your final location before mopping up the water. On the other hand, XPEL even sticks to soapy water. This is good for XPEL when trying to round corners. XPEL was a bit more flexible or stretchable. It's also bad for XPEL because it's more likely to stick and trap dirt, trap water and air bubbles, and stick where you don't want it. Even with a lot of splashing water, if you stick and peel too many times, the adhesive will stick together in places and cause an optical defect on a clean surface like a headlight. I still haven't decided what I would buy if I did it again. I will update in a few weeks or months to test performance and how well the water bubbles go away. The 3M was easy to squeeze out the water bubbles, but the XPEL got stuck and held up a few bubbles that I couldn't squeeze out. Note that I couldn't do this with one sheet due to the severe curves and ended up misplacing two sheets, one low and one high, to deal with the curves (both products).

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Little repairability
