Review on SRAM P Link Bicycle Chain 8 Speed Sports & Fitness by Pete Brown

Who needs a simple link? (Power Link in this case)

I've been using Taya and Sram chains for ages. I still have a new Taya from 15+ years ago that I'm going to completely rebuild on top of an old Schwinn Traveler. However, I prefer PINS on Sram chains to any other brand. Her ends are slightly raised instead of deepening. When using the Taya quick connector I had trouble opening it while driving. Although the Sram Pro Link quick connector uses a different connection method and mechanism, I have chosen to bypass these connections in favor of a direct connection. Sram pins can be slid into the outer plate without pushing the pin "through" the outer plate. Once I've removed the links I need to remove, I reconnect the pin that's still in the outer plate using my chain tool (it won't break the chain unless you break something) to push the pin back until he can't get out. the opposite side by the same amount as the side of the tool. Then use a small flat head screwdriver to pry this pin out of the INNER plate gap (not the outer plate gap). This will release the compressive stress on that particular pin/connector and allow it to rotate freely. You can also use the chain itself to bend the angle back and forth (similar to how the chain naturally curves from low cog to low cog, or big ring to big cog). The combination of these two steps frees the pins, allowing free movement on that pin. The pins of these chains do not break and their adhesion to the outer plates is not disturbed. I always take my chain tool with me when I travel, but I've never had to repair a chain because of this assembly. And I never have to worry about connecting links failing or coming loose or having to look for them when removing the chain. Even if you keep removing the chain for cleaning, you don't need new quick links. You just push the pin out. Remove the chain. Clean chain. Insert pen. stretch pegboards. And here you are on your way again. Sram chains are probably the best chains on the market for this procedure.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
