I switched from my morally and physically dated strong man core 2 dual e6750 to an i5 4590, and the change is enormous. For comparison, when playing three battles on C2D + Oven650 at medium settings without anti-aliasing, the frame rate increased by 20–30 with frequent drawdowns to 15–18 frames. By contrast, when playing 4590+ Pech650 at ultra without anti-aliasing (depending on the card) at 1600x900 resolution, the frame rate increases by 40–55 (depending on the card), resting on the vidyuhi, but three times as much on the face. It is cooled by a Zalman CnPS 10x Optima cooler, which runs at 26 to 32 °C when idle and 44 to 45 °C when under load (battle 3, Chrome with many tabs open, twitch broadcast, various background programs, and torrent). In hwmonitor, the maximum speed was fixed at 48 °C on one of the cores, but that speed only lasted a brief period of time. That works out to be worth the money by 5 points (I once purchased my K2D for 14k when they first emerged).
