Why are cheap things cheap?

Why are cheap things cheap? This product is a great showcase. While it looks like a clone of the original remote (the Acura RSX in my case), subtle differences make it a useless replacement. The product consists of 4 parts: Front cover Back cover Buttons Rubber insert button / chip contact At first I did what anyone would do - I took the chip and battery off my old block and put them in this one. It did not work. Absolutely 100% does NOT work. Upon further investigation I noticed that the back cover didn't have the correct battery contacts that the original had, in fact there weren't any. Instead, I reused the OEM back cover and reassembled it. Still completely without function. After that I checked the battery (fully functional) and the contacts. I bent the pins so they were a little tighter hoping it was just a loose connection. This didn't work either. At this point I reassembled my OEM remote to test these parts again. OEM worked fine. (Note: I only bought this because my remote is very worn, not broken.) This time I assembled it using the following components: OEM back cover OEM chip OEM rubber insert/contact New front cover New buttons This combo worked, indicating that both the back cover and the rubber insert/contact are defective. That means HALF the product is garbage. I now have a Frankenstein remote with a new front wheel, old rear wheel and old inner lining. I gave it (2) stars as it was reasonably priced and shipped quickly but you should expect the price of the product to be what it is - cheap.
