Great addition to the New 2017 Jeep JKU

Great addition to the New 2017 Jeep JKU I chose this option over some others because I really liked the extra brake light as well as the backup light. The reversing light makes a huge difference in nighttime visibility and is as bright as a flashlight. It doesn't have the green/yellow/red lines that other dashcams have, but neither do my mirrors. Installation was pretty easy, but I would add that you will need an Alpine Electronics ALP-HRN-CAMCH Camera Wiring Harness Adapter Camera Input Wiring Harness for HCE-TCAM1-WRA, Backup Camera System and Factory Display for Jeep Wrangler 2007-2017 if you want to use the factory touch screen -Use stereo system. I have a Stereo 430 with no navigation and it works fine. You need to make a connection to the wiring harness. So if you're looking for a plug-and-play option, this isn't it and probably doesn't exist. .Regarding the fitting details, I could not route the cable through the fabric sleeve from the tailgate to the body (marked as optional in the fitting instructions). There just wasn't enough space. I used 3-way crimp connectors to connect to a wire harness similar to Ancor 210510 Marine Grade 210510 Marine Grade 210510 Nylon Insulated Funnel Dual Crimp Entry 3-Way Connector (16 to 14 gauge, 25 pack) except that the wire over 20 to 22 caliber is . Also, do a test mount of the camera on the spare tire before gluing the rubber grommet and strapping everything down to ensure proper cable slack. I had to cancel a small job when my estimate of the sag was about 1 inch shorter. If you are using a camera input harness, you may need a small RCA patch cord to extend the length (male to female or female). , depending on where you ground the cable. I used a ring terminal to connect the ground to the last screw behind the passenger cowl and the camera harness wire was too short for the way I wanted to route the wire. While I waited, the dealer reprogrammed the radio for about $80. .
