In the advertising photo it doesn't fit like a booster seat without anything underneath, but our dogs don't mind it anyway. Our smallest dog (9 pounds) loves the extra security. We use special harnesses for our dogs, so the seat clip and buckle offer them great security. We regularly spritz a soothing spray on the ceiling in the box for added digging potential, and now Little Dog is a much happier passenger. (Slightly larger and almost medium-sized dogs like this just fine, but not with the level of "meeeeeeeeeeee!" that the smallest ones show. And that might not be a problem for someone without spine, neck and shoulder injuries like me).
