Intentional position restrictions, thin built-in cable causes signal loss

Radio Shack Left Antenna 2001 for 20 US dollars built into an insulated (wide) RG59 coaxial cable. Thick cables block interference, allowing cheap antennas to pick up more channels. I wish it wasn't built in so I could install current standard four screen RG6 coax so I didn't have to hook up signal boosters. I live right in the metropolis. Yesterday I had 83 channels. Rescanning to help consumers found only 79 channels. The right antenna is half the size of the metal. Also has a built in cable with less insulation, I think thin wires are cheaper to install than a coax connector. All those $15 models and under have the same problem. Why install a flimsy cable that requires a signal booster when you can fit a manual RG6 port? The rabbit's ears don't fold because their base is intentionally blocking it. It also doesn't rotate to optimize both UHF and VHF. It looks so inefficient I bought it hoping that 2 decades changed the quality of entry level antennas. Only 35 channels (including unnecessary extra channels 3 and 4), thanks. If you're really on a sub-$10 budget, want to ditch the cable, save a few months, and then upgrade, it's going to be a tough two months. Your towers give you groups of channels you don't like, some of my 83 channels are repeated. Content transmitted from the closer tower. But I lost 2 good comedy channels while waiting for this product to arrive. I already knew not to rescan, but uninformed buyers need these videos for perspective. Another click in the metropolis, 35 channels. Rabbitears.info tells you where to aim by address. Channelmaster.com tells you what channels are available on each cell tower by zip code. Don't buy those fancy flat antennas either. Even Channelmaster sells them on their website. Flat squares don't work. All are weak. warned. I learned all this in a few days so you can start with a clearer picture.

Pros
  • VERSATILE VIEW - works with all brands of HDTVs with excellent signal and picture quality, while chrome dipoles and loops provide high quality VHF and UHF reception
Cons
  • Low maintenance
