I love that this peeler has stainless steel blades that are likely to stay sharp for a very long time. The sharpener has a pleasant weight and feels good in the hand. The blade is very sharp and I probably wouldn't let a child use it. An inexpensive plastic protective case would also be nice for those who keep it in the kitchen drawer along with many other kitchen utensils. I've found this works well for shaving carrot or zucchini strips, or fairly thick strips. I have another knife but it doesn't work well with the consistency of bands like this one. So far everything I've peeled has worked well with this peeler. These included potatoes, carrots, various types of squash and parsnips.
