Bought the 2 inch mattress topper after reading product reviews comparing various LUCID 2-4 inch mattress toppers to gel memory foam . Some people who received the 3-4 inch toppers said they were too soft, but I've found myself craving even softer sleep after trying the 2 inch LUCID. That doesn't mean the 2 inch screen isn't very good, I liked it. It expanded to its full size and lost its original smell (which I was expecting from reading the reviews) about 48 hours after I left it before laying it on my bed. I think it was a winning combination to get this topper, another thin blanket. Gasket and then new sheet metal. The quilted mattress topper I received is waterproof and protects the mattress topper, and it provides a thick enough layer between me and the foam that it doesn't feel like I'm lying directly on much of the foam, although it is reduce the soft feel of the LUCID foam. But because of that, I want to add another LUCID to the pile - I could try returning this one and buying a new 4" topper instead, but I don't want to go without a comfy bed again. I'd say this mattress topper is perfect for those who just want a more comfortable mattress with no really noticeable soft-drop effect. But if, like me, you like to sink in your bed a little, go for 3-4". And I highly recommend taking my advice and an extra thin one mattress between you and the foam for anyone who even cares about the softness of a 2" pad or the feeling of sleeping directly on top of the foam. So far I haven't noticed any extra smells or a feeling of overheating and that's all very good.
