really easy to use. I bought the bottom end of one of these (the one without the balls and ceramic filler) and it was very easy to set up. My suggestion: buy quality putty and the best foam. I bought 3 kilos of GreatWave Engineering organic home stretcher for this canister and used almost all of it. Biodome remedies are said to be better in every way and so far it's working like a charm. I also bought 3 types of foam on eBay for the layer in the first (bottom) filter bowl. From bottom to top I went from coarse to fine foam in the first bowl, I think I used 15ppi, 30ppi and 45ppi foam to filter out the particles. Then for the other two bowls I completely filled the Biohome medium and on top I used the inferior white filters that came with the canister just to keep everything in place. I found this setting in a popular YouTube video and it seems to work for everyone who's used it. *** Because when you set it up, I recommend using only one hose, it's much easier and faster. First, I set everything up for the canister, so all I had to do was fill it with water. I filled the tank half way and meanwhile I disconnected the filter inlet line at the top of the tank and just brought the hose barb to the filter intake assembly and it filled and filled for me which I literally didn't have to use the fill button at all once I had the filter on. When water comes out of the filter system outlet at the top of the tank, you know your filter is filled with water. ***Again, if using this method, make sure the filter is set up the way you intend to use it (with the tubing and inlet/outlet ports installed in your tank). Don't do this until it's fully set up or you'll end up with water all over the floor and your significant other will be very upset with you. . There will be a lot of air bubbles in the system, they will come out by themselves. You can use the fill button to try adding more water if you like. After a few hours most of the air bubbles were gone from the system. I grabbed the canister filter and *carefully* tipped it side to side to release the last of the trapped air out of the filter. I've been working with this filter for about 2 weeks, so far no problems. Highly recommended.
