Garbage storage

I used to like hard drives from this series. I used the older generation - all black to the current generation. I don't know what happened, but for this generation of this drive, someone who was inexplicably simultaneously color blind, dyslexic, and in the middle of a stroke seems to have created an aesthetic design. Aside from redefining how bad it is to ruin a previously good design, this generation of drives seems to be plagued with issues. Others have reported numerous instances where the drive either failed upon arrival or stopped working shortly thereafter, rendering the data inaccessible. In my experience, Western Digital decided that this rescue drive needed some shading for how awful it was: With the drive I bought, I found that some operations (e.g. data syncing, etc.) result in an immediate SYSTEM RESTART . No warnings, no errors, no BSODs - it just instantly shuts down and restarts while it's running. I ruled out the cable, USB hub, motherboard port and even the motherboard USB controller (since I have two - they are used for different ports). ).The older generation WD drive (all black) works without problems. This causes a spontaneous reboot of the entire computer system, as if a stroke from the disk graphic designer of this model was contagious. I won't even consider buying another Western Digital external drive until they fix this bug and come out with a next generation that better addresses both technical and aesthetic issues.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Makes me worried
