I am happy to change my rating

hard drive no longer works after only 4 months! Now I can't retrieve files! If there is a way to help someone get them back I would happily change the rating.

Not user friendly; Customer service issue

I bought this in November 2017 to back up my laptop's hard drive. This is a very small, high-capacity external drive. All good things end here. Shortly after buying it, he froze. I couldn't save/copy documents or back up anything. I called support. I noticed from the start that the representative didn't want to redeem the guarantee. In the end, he connected remotely and, after relatively long unsuccessful attempts, offered to replace it with a restored one - I refused; I paid for a brand new…

Accidentally blocked

Bought 1 of these and accidentally bought a second one, first 5 minutes of setup everything was fine, I created 1 drive folder to start moving my stuff then randomly they both become 4TB -Drives blocked and somehow then it gets to 8MB and I'm blocked on both. I entered the password correctly at least 80+ times, even manually typing and/or copying and pasting the password into the password field, and still got blocked! I've searched all over the internet and even called wdc support and no help…

Not stable on computers and accessories

This is the worst hard drive I've ever had. It's very unstable. About half the time I access the drive it appears to be blank. Nothing but rebooting the entire system will bring it back. It always makes me panic. I use it connected to a MacBook Pro. Don't buy this.

Garbage storage

I used to like hard drives from this series. I used the older generation - all black to the current generation. I don't know what happened, but for this generation of this drive, someone who was inexplicably simultaneously color blind, dyslexic, and in the middle of a stroke seems to have created an aesthetic design. Aside from redefining how bad it is to ruin a previously good design, this generation of drives seems to be plagued with issues. Others have reported numerous instances where the…

Hard drive works well with Windows and PS4 so far.

Bought for a couple with a gold PS4 and so far it's working well. It's only been a week and no problems. Moved the content to the drive, installed some new games on it and everything works fine. I haven't done a direct 1:1 comparison of boot time between an internal drive and using it over USB. Comes with some installers on disk for backup software; copied to make sure I have the most free space. I tried using this to back up my PS3 before upgrading to a 1TB WD Black internal hard drive, but…

Light, thin, durable, portable

I bought this just in case and it has saved my ass when traveling. The speeds are very good for a hard drive, it is very portable and elegant. But if you get 2TB+, then the form factor becomes huge, almost brick-like (stick to 1TB for travel). I have the metal version (silver part is metal, black part is plastic). Still free of scuffs and scratches. For the price it couldn't be better. However, if you have cash to spare, you might want to look at the SSD version. They are faster and about half…

Almost as expected

Almost as expected. I want the drive to run at 7200 rpm. I have a Touro S that I love (1TB) but need a larger but portable drive. It works well. I find the WD backup software to be slower than using my Touro with Macrium Reflect 7. Overall, I'm happy that the drive can be locked with a password. I take the drive with me on vacation and it's portable enough to fit in the suitcase I bought. I trust Western Digital and their customer service. I have an older drive from them and it still works…

Excellent High Density Backup

As a quick historical note: in the 70's we needed a terabit, not a byte, of storage space for vast amounts of different data collected in different places by different means. We had almost an acre of subterranean vaults with electronic, magnetic and mechanical facilities. Now I get 4TB on a plain drive! It's fast, reliable and unbeatable in price. As we expand into all-electronic storage, this device will become indispensable. I've found that we double our storage needs every 3-4 years, so we…
