I'm using it on my laptop because the built-in camera isn't working. I connect it to the top of the display (above the non-working laptop camera) and plug it in. Works well. It appears to be high res, although I can't really tell. It's also quite a wide angle, which I don't like. Luckily, the app I use (Zoom) allows for a closer view. I use a computer microphone. The camera mount seems designed to stand on its own, hook onto displays of varying thicknesses, and has a threaded hole for attaching to something like a tripod. It is not spring-loaded, so it cannot be "fixed" to the side of the display, for example. It would only stay if there was enough friction.
