Review on Cabinet Hardware Jig by Bob Fasho

Revainrating 3 out of 5

This device is average and not exactly

I bought it knowing it was only $30 and the real version is almost $200. I needed it for a one-time job, so I couldn't justify the $200 price tag. Let me start by saying that this is by no means correct. For me, however, it made things much faster. The device is off. I measured from where you drilled the hole to the side panel. One hole differed from the other by almost 1/16 inch. My eye sees 1/16 inch less. Before drilling any holes I decided to check the attachment. I tried pressing it against the door but depending on how hard you press the clip it moves your holes. It quickly became clear to me that this wouldn't work, but luckily I didn't drill any holes. Then I placed the bracket against the cabinet door and decided to take a mechanical pencil and draw circles in the holes where I was going to drill. I did this with several doors to see how accurate they are. Sometimes the holes were perfect, sometimes they were 1/16 inch off. I ended up using the device in the following way. I brought the device to the door and held it in my hand. circle where you need to drill. I then removed the mount and checked my lap measurements. I then used an automatic punch to make a dent in the wood where I had to drill. If my circles were off I would adjust them accordingly. I then drilled a small pilot hole and then a 3/16" hole. It ended up saving a lot of time, but it's far from ideal.
