Review on πŸ’‘ SmartThings Compatible Philips Dimmable LED Equivalent by Geoff Cooper

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I had a bounce rate of 33% (6 out of 9).

I wish I could say something better about this product. This is the only third-party Phillips Hue bulb that is a good color and works properly. They work a little differently than regular Hues, for better or worse, as they remember their state when turned on and off. They are easy to find on the hub. There are no 6 letter codes written on them for reuse on another hub or after they've been removed, but they do have a QR code, which I think is generally worse if you need to reset, but I've had to so far never try. All this usually spoils the high failure rate. In about 2 months I installed 9 bulbs, 3 have failed, they are no longer seen by the hub (which in most cases was not far away). Even if lightbulbs are cheaper, with this failure rate I no longer save. But more importantly, the bulbs did not fail immediately, but randomly within 2 months. I can no longer be sure when something will fail. A small increase in failure rates and they will actually be more expensive than equivalent 60W bulbs. Normal hue colored lamps have an extremely low failure rate. I've installed dozens of lightbulbs and only one has failed from heavy use. I expect to install light and forget and I can't achieve that with indoor bulbs. I have now removed all but 3 of the bulbs and I expect the rest to go out soon enough.

Pros
  • COMPATIBLE WITH PHILIPS HUE AND OTHER DEVICES. The lamps connect directly to Zigbee-compatible hubs, including Philips Hue*, SmartThings and Alexa devices with a built-in Smart Hub. *Does not work with Apple Homekit.
Cons
  • Only available in black
