When I first brewed coffee with this machine, I used a carafe with exactly the same dimensions (for two servings) as the Krups coffee maker I was replacing. I was disappointed with the result. The coffee was so-so and just didn't taste like what Krups made. After about a week of frustrating coffees, I upped my coffee a bit, probably by about 5%. The improvement was significant. Now I am satisfied with the coffee this machine produces. Tried the single serving feature for the first time today. I exactly halved my measurements by two servings and used a filter that allows you to brew your own ground coffee. I was disappointed. However, I did notice that the output was slightly larger than the cup I normally drink from, while filling exactly two cups from a carafe. I don't plan on using this feature very often, but next time I try it I'll take the water back a bit. It seems that a small amount of water can make a noticeable difference when brewing a small batch of coffee. During the brewing process, I watched a trickle of coffee drip into my cup and didn't like what I saw. The stream came out in waves. At the beginning of the wave the creek was dark, but in the second half of the wave the creek looked very watery. I suppose it ended up being average, but I didn't like it. The only other K-Cup machine I've ever used was a Keurig in an apartment I rented last winter. It was good. The flat came stock with K-Cup pads so I just used those, although I'm against pre-made pads for environmental reasons, although they are convenient. I don't know if I can get this Hamilton Beach to produce that much coffee per serving, but I do know that I need less water to do it. I agree with another reviewer. The disposable filter barely fits in the storage compartment. This requires fumbling to get the filter to fit perfectly in the compartment for the lid to fit normally. I'm not sure what I'm doing exactly to make it fit, but for some reason, after about 10 seconds of fiddling around, it finally goes on. Nothing bad, but a bit annoying. Increasing the chamber height by 1mm would have avoided this problem. This product comes with a power cord that is only 2 feet long. It must have at least a 3 foot cord. It really annoys me when manufacturers cut corners on something so cheap. I'm assuming the 5 cents per unit they save goes into someone's pocket. Ironically they have a small compartment for storing extra cords, but with a 2ft cord there can't be an extra cord unless the outlet is directly behind the unit, slightly to the left. ok coffee maker. I have a version of the carafe that works to my satisfaction. I could get the single-shot feature for better coffee with a little more experimentation, but that doesn't bother me.
