Based on other users' positive experiences with this collar, I am assuming our tear-off clip was defective. We first bought in September, adjusted the collar and put it on our 10 week old kitten. A few minutes later, the ring holding the bell was lodged in her teeth, and in their struggle, the entire collar was lodged in her mouth. It took two of us to free her from the collar as the 'pull off' latch did not work without a great deal of force. We tried a second time in January this year, again sized appropriately (we removed the bell but not the ring) - this happened again a few minutes later - this time damaging her jaw. If we weren't there, it would be a death trap. I cannot stress enough that this collar is not secure. The safety lock does not automatically release the collar. Marriage or not - never again.
