Review on πŸŽ™οΈ USB Blue Snowflake Microphone by Nathan Byard

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Sounds great, but is cumbersome to use.

Others have mentioned the more technical aspects of this microphone, so I'll focus on ease of use. The mic is of excellent quality - it picks up guitar, vocals and other noise with little to no distortion, and the recordings include decent noise cancellation too. I've been in situations once or twice where there was a loud ambient noise nearby, like an air conditioner or a noisy computer, and the mic didn't really pick up those sounds. Being a USB mic there is no way to adjust levels other than Windows Audio but it does the job perfectly and the recordings sound great, especially at this price point. The issue I have with this mic is the mount design and overall ease of use. The included USB cable is a regular Type-A to Mini cable that goes into the microphone and ends with a large terminal block sticking out on the back. In addition, the cable itself is quite short and stiff, making it difficult to position the ball on the tabletop. Due to the cable and base, it is physically impossible to place the ball in certain positions. I also think the base is missing. It's solid and well made, but doesn't make orientation easy and can't be adjusted to 'hook' or 'hook' to a computer monitor as shown in promotional photos. My desktop monitor is too thick to fit this way and my laptop screen is too thin. There's no happy medium here, and the base dangles on my laptop's screen, which isn't very practical. Looks good and the quality is excellent. But competitors like the Samson Go Mic portable USB condenser microphone offer a similar product with better customization options, but at a lower price point. Blue makes fantastic mics, but at this price point and problematic design, there are better options.
