Review on LG 27GN950B UltraGear 4K 144Hz HDR Gaming Monitor with G-SYNC Compatibility and Pivot Adjustment - 27GN950-B by George Ware

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great monitor but the stand is short.

This monitor is fantastic. 4K looks nice and crisp (and you can even adjust the sharpness if you want a little more), the high refresh rate is great, G-Sync works as advertised, excellent color accuracy out of the box, all for less than $1,000 (what a miracle in January 2021 when I bought it). There are only two downsides to this monitor: HDR isn't that great. Looks good, but blacks look a bit washed out to me compared to the non-HDR mode. The second complaint is that the monitor stand sucks. I can't get the monitor as low as I'd like so I had to buy a desk mount instead. If you're a tall person (or have a short table) you probably won't mind, but it just doesn't work for us short folks, lol. It's also worth noting that the monitor automatically switches to HDR mode when HDR is enabled in a game. If you disabled HDR on desktop, it will revert back to SDR when you exit the game. It's REALLY nice because I've had an HDR monitor in the past where you had to turn it on via the Windows 10 desktop to get it to work in games, which ruins the brightness for non-HDR content. (i.e. almost everything on the Internet). I would give this monitor 4 ½ stars if I could. I'm okay with the lack of HDR, but I'd like to use the included stand.

Pros

Cons
  • Color balancing: If the colors on the display are not precisely calibrated, the display can appear washed out or too bright.
