This is glass, but it doesn't look like regular glass; This is exceptional quality. Reminds me of the difference between "Clay" and "Fine Bone China". A slightly different method of firing the "sand" must have been used in the manufacture of this product to create this type of glass. The mug is insulated by an air space between two layers of glass. The cup only gets slightly warm with hot coffee, but the cup definitely doesn't transfer the heat from the coffee into the cup itself (i.e. your drink stays hotter longer). If you want a cup of espresso to warm your hands, then this isn't for you. If you want a quick sip of coffee and run away, then this isn't for you either. If you enjoy drinking Greek/Turkish coffee or espresso in a convivial setting, then this is a GREAT mug!
