Suction cups won't stick to shower screen

I have ordered two shower scrapers. I had to replace one because the suction cup wasn't sticking to the wall. the one I got in exchange didn't work either. I smeared it with petroleum jelly hoping it would create suction. it does not work. I have one sitting on the floor now. What am I doing wrong? Is it possible to get another suction cup without returning the entire product? I was going to order two more for my daughters but I doubt the suction cups will not stick to the shower wall. Thanks for your help. jane
