So these ceiling lights were replaced on our middle floor - the installation was the only problem initially. Turn off the light vent, remove your ugly, energy-wasting overhead lights that hang down a foot just enough to get in the way of moving trucks, mattresses and more. Once the old fixings are removed you will see that you need to cut a 6" hole in the ceiling and your ceiling light boxes are 4" - remove them, they are probably nailed to the ceiling joists/rafters - they probably are to the nailed side and are made of plastic. - Take the biggest needle nose pliers you have and take the plastic ceiling box under where your wires enter and twist/break the box until you release the wires or one side. If you have cables coming out of a box, do it the other way around. Then grab a hammer, reach up and use the handle to try to push the crate up and away from the wooden beam it's nailed to. If that doesn't work, take a 2x2 piece of wood or a 1 inch piece of pipe or a cat's paw and try to push or hammer the box so it goes into the ceiling, or just keep ripping the plastic apart . pieces with pliers. Once you've managed to move, take what's called a final crowbar from the painful part of your big box and pry it off the beam. The goal is to be able to remove or move the box to the side and have easy, unobstructed access to the Romex/electrical wiring. Now mark a 6" circle on the ceiling and align it with the side of the joist so your 4" circle is inside the 6" circle but touching one side to the inside and the long one to stay on the side of the bar. Drywall saw to make a 6" diameter circle. Make the connection by twisting the wires and then twisting them together after passing the wires through the access hole of the box, then connect them. The first one Light took me 40 minutes 20 of which I tried to figure out how to remove the damn ceiling light box nailed to the ceiling joists the last one took me 10 minutes Google has very little info on how to bakelite -Removed plastic boxes, I've installed about 10 so far.
