My daughter lost the only working key for her 2008 Chevy Impala. After almost 3 weeks we realized that the key may never be found. I googled how to program a new key without a working key and this method worked like magic: • Cut the key at the dealer. VIN and proof of ownership required. That's the only money they get from you! • If your car battery is not charged, plug in a 12V charger for the entire 30+ minute process. • Insert the key and turn it to the ON position. Do not turn beyond this position. Leave the key in the ignition switch for about 10 minutes. • When the SERCUITY SYSTEM indicator goes off, turn the key to the OFF position for 5 seconds and leave the key in the ignition switch. Turn the key back to the ON position. • Perform this ON/OFF sequence a total of 3 times. When you turn the key to the OFF position for the third time, remove it from the ignition. Now the key should work. Mine did.
