Burr Manual Coffee Grinder

I started drinking draft coffee during the pandemic. One of the first rules of pourover is that you have to buy coffee beans and grind them yourself. I had an old electric grinder laying around but it is very noisy, makes a huge mess and results in a very uneven grind unless adjusted to the fineness of the powder. For these reasons, I decided to use a manual coffee grinder. I also didn't want to spend a lot of money until I realized what I was getting at. I've had this product for about six weeks and use it several times a day. I'm aiming for a sea salt thin grind and I'd say it does a pretty good job. The roughness setting isn't notched and I didn't bother to read the instructions, but I managed to tweak it through trial and error. I like the grinding effect. The resulting coffee tastes pretty good - this is of course purely subjective and depends on all other aspects of the pouring process as well. About a week ago I encountered an issue mentioned by several other reviewers. At the top of the grinder is a plastic cart that holds the beans and fits into the metal case. I think there's some kind of glue holding these pieces together, but it wears out. That means when I tried to use the grinder, the plastic part just spun in the metal case. The millstones themselves were not polished. I fixed it with an ingenious hack. I took a piece of masking tape and taped it around the outer perimeter of the plastic slide. This created a little extra space inside the metal housing, which prevents unwanted slipping. That issue aside, the build quality seems perfectly acceptable for a very inexpensive coffee grinder. So if you're a newbie, it might still be worth it. If my budget is between $30-$40 I might consider something like the Hario coffee grinder which might last longer. For long term heavy duty use I would consider switching to something with steel burrs like the Timemore or 1Zpresso. They are a lot more expensive but maybe worth it if like me you grind coffee 6+ times a day.
