Review on πŸ”ͺ SHARPAL 105N Versatile Sharpener for Precise Sharpening by Jonathan Lamp

King of Tungsten Carbide Hand Sharpeners

There are many sharpeners on the market, like the 105N, that use a tungsten carbide tip that you guide along the edge, but Sharpal is probably the cost leader. ribbons. The entire sharpening and honing component is made of tungsten carbide, while almost all such products use a small block of material that is welded (brazed?) to another piece of cheap metal. For a knife that might work well - at least for a while - but try something hard like an ax or a lawnmower blade and it's likely to fall off too quickly. The sharpening side is a nice touch that few competitors have, as is the chunky rubber grip that lets you hold it securely even when your hands are wet or sweaty. I didn't get 5 stars because of 2 issues: 1 - There was no documentation with the product. On the back of the box was information on how to sharpen the knife but nothing on sharpening. Also, there was nothing about scissors, scissors, an ax, or any other tool that could be sharpened. I found some information by searching the internet but it is not necessary to use it, the product must come with a brochure or something similar. 2 - I have a problem with the end cap; it cannot be worn. Well, that's not entirely true; it can be tightened, but then you need pliers - no kidding - to take it off, so at least in my case there was a quality control issue. There really is nothing better for this type of sharpener. I wonder how many of the negative comments are due to people not knowing how to hand sharpen. Finding the right angle and applying the right pressure is not easy, these skills must be acquired with practice and skill. Sharpal has products that will allow you to run a knife/axe/scissors through a V-channel sharpener and gouge a lot of metal, but this isn't one of them. Hand sharpening takes discipline to keep getting better, but once you've reached perfection, using something like this Sharpal is no longer difficult.
