Because it's not a liquid, it stays where you put it and won't leak or stain your pants. However, the best reason for using this material is that it has better lubricity than oil. It has made the action noticeably smoother on every knife I've used it on. One thing that some people find a downside is that this product is not a liquid, you really have to take the knives apart to properly lubricate them with it. Most knife lovers disassemble their knives for cleaning anyway, so this product is perfect for them.
