I ordered this camera because I was looking for something compact to take with me on hikes, rowing and only have a pocket camera. Also, it's inconvenient to carry my DSLR around to take pictures. Since we love kayaking, I'd rather get wet on it than on my more expensive camera. So to the advantages of the camera. It has very fast focusing with no shutter lag issues. The viewfinder is about typical for day shots. The video does a pretty good job. Obviously these photos aren't as good as my more expensive DSLRs and camcorders, but I didn't expect them to be as good. I'm impressed with the optical zoom. I set the ISO to 400 and it zooms and focuses quickly on subjects with a shutter speed fast enough to avoid blur in most situations. I will not repeat what others have already written. my disadvantages? I used it for the second day and noticed that there were a few scratches on the viewfinder glass where I put it in the zip pouch and took it out. My thumb rubbed some dull spots on the right side. Not cool. It is clear that the glass could be better. I have since donated one of my military grade tablet screen covers and solved the problem. I haven't printed any photos yet, so I can't recommend the print quality. Some of the macro shots of the blossoming apple tree showed good sharpness and color saturation. The Facebook video was grainy at first, but clicking HD cleans it up into a crisp image. I assume it has been downgraded to a low res for posting. A nice feature is that you can turn off the microphone. For voice acting and music editing, this is a good feature. I bought a Joby mini tripod for timed recording and video. It wraps around things and has very strong magnets as well as a swivel knob. Either way, for the money I think it's a good camera, small enough to be used as a backup, pocket camera, or for hiking and paddling. For paddling, I have a clear Wally World case with attachable padding. This keeps him nice and dry and has a hook to tie him to the cab. I can dream of a GoPro, but for now my Oly is enough.
