Review on CAMEL CROWN Backpacking Lightweight Insulated by Leon Thompkins

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Nothing for the very cold season!

I would say NO, it is absolutely NOT warm enough for really cold temperatures. I'm warm enough if not colder than 45°F. Where I'm from (Indiana/Ohio) at 45 it's not very cold. I believe that frost and below is really cold. Below 45° I would definitely not have felt comfortably warm in this jacket. In my opinion, this is a light spring/fall jacket that is very similar in warmth to a thick hoodie. The seller recommended wearing a sweater underneath in very cold snowy weather when someone asked if it was warm and I DON'T AGREE! When I buy a winter coat I don't want to have a sweater underneath to add bulk, but even if I did, it wouldn't be warm enough for "very cold snowy weather". I'm surprised a Camel Crown Direct salesperson would say that. IMHO they either have no idea how cold it is in very cold snowy weather or they were outright lying to sell. I feel cheated as this jacket is very thin with very little down. I could buy a big brand like Lands End that is higher quality and actually warm for almost the same price. It's too late to return now and I'm sorry I wasn't able to check how warm it really was before I passed my return date. When I tried it, it was snowing and not warm at all. Live and learn I think. In about 3-4 months it will be a nice spring/fall jacket lol. If you're considering buying this jacket, be aware that it probably won't be comfortably warm until it's above 40-45°F. Now that I know it's not enough for a winter jacket, I need to buy something that's actually warm enough for a midwestern winter.
