I used this 8GB upgrade (2 x 4GB pair) on my SX2850-UB10P gateway. Like many other users, my wife also liked to have many applications open all the time, such as E.g. multiple Excel and Firefox with many open tabs which tend to consume a lot of memory in Windows 7. This computer came with 8GB, but she actually exceeded that limit on almost a daily basis. Once usage exceeds the 7GB level, things get a lot slower as the operating system has to constantly swap large blocks of memory to and from the hard drive. So I decided to increase the amount of RAM. The PC's original DRAM was 8GB, installed in four 2GB DDR sticks in four slots. The memory on this PC needs to be upgraded with the appropriate pairs of DDR sticks. Removing a 4GB DDR pair and replacing it with this 8GB pair (and leaving the other original 4GB pair unchanged in the other two slots) resulted in a new total DRAM of 12GB ( 2 x 2GB + 2 x 4GB). , a net increase of +4GB. Crucial.com and other websites indicate that this PC has an 8GB limit, but it actually appears to be limited only by what can physically be installed in those four slots. Both the PC motherboard and the Win7 operating system recognized the additional memory after a reboot without any problems. Note that you will need additional disk space before rebooting as the operating system needs to create a new larger paging file (pagefile.sys) to handle more RAM. Therefore, it is advisable to remove as much of the drive as possible (and possibly also run a disk defragmenter) before upgrading the DRAM. So far I haven't seen any adverse effects from additional RAM above 8GB. Now that it's 12GB, my wife's PC has 50% more RAM overhead when she's running all her apps.
