I've been using the older and cheaper Tripp Lite Under Monitor for over 7 years and needed another one for my desktop setup. This time I opted for a newer and more expensive surge protector under the Tripp Lite MT6-Plus monitor as I could use the 2 extra USB ports for chargers. I won't go into the details and features between the two as you can probably search the web and make your own comparison. What I can tell you is that the main difference is the Joule rating, the insurance offering and the cost which is almost double the MT6-Plus compared to the older TMC-6 model. So whether it's worth paying double the price for you is up to you. As for my experience with the MT6-Plus, it looks sleeker and more modern, which means it's glossy, still plastic, and a fingerprint magnet. It's also about 1 inch wider than the TMC-6 due to the extra USB ports. Personally, I would like the USB ports to be on the back as I prefer to leave the USB cables plugged in. From a functional point of view USB ports The front panel ports are easily accessible. All the buttons on the front are curved when not pressed and the 4 main buttons are illuminated with a blue LED when pressed. The main switch lights up light green. The Line OK LED is emerald green, the Grounded LED is red and finally the Protected LED is a bright green LED identical to the main switch LED - all three of these LEDs are always lit. may not be a problem for some people. Note that on the older TMC-6 model, the Grounded and Protected LEDs are also always lit. by always being on, which is independent of the main switch. As others have noted, I would like to have plugins or two spaced proportionally to accommodate your typically large Brick plugins. As for the feeling of cheap plastic, you either grow on it or you just don't like it. My old Tripp Lite, which I had for over 7 years, was cheap plastic and still works, so I have no complaints. If there was one downside to this device, it's its glossy, slick finish that's easy to scratch, and I'm sure that over time I think it will age faster than the older model. Overall I am satisfied with the device and it meets my expectations. This. Of course, time will tell, but if the internals are made like the old Tripp Lite model, I'll be happy with my decision. I suspect that the reason for the higher cost than the older version has more to do with the higher joule rating and insurance offerings, as well as the USB ports. It's not for everyone, but there are enough reviews and photos now that you don't know what you're buying.
