I don't have street sockets out front and I love putting Christmas lights on my porch, I've used one of these for years and mine finally kicked the bucket and I needed a new one. So during the holiday season my porch light doesn't have a bulb, just this one and my spotlights are plugged into it, but after the holidays I plug the bulb back in and leave it on year-round because I like it more in the summer, around mine to charge my laptop while I'm on the porch and even to plug in my bug trap while I'm on the porch. I love that all I have to do is remove the bulb, screw it in, and when I'm done, pop the bulb in. and I can use my porch light switch to turn my Christmas lights (or whatever I've ever connected) on and off.
