Finally, set up this router with Comcast.

Bought this router to replace an old Linksys 100MB router that was no longer receiving firmware updates; I thought it might be a security hole. I had another ASUS 1GB router that I was happy with, so I bought this AC-1700 to replace the Linksys. When I installed this router and connected it to my personal wired router, it didn't get an IP address via DHCP. After a few tries I decided it was bad and asked for a replacement. Got a replacement, same problem. I took my old ASUS and used it and it had the same problem. I called Comcast to see if I need to add a MAC to my Comcast account, they said no. I took the MAC from my original Linksys and copied it to the new ASUS and it worked. I read somewhere that you need to turn off your cable model for ten minutes to make DHCP forget the old MAC, which might also solve the problem. My other ASUS was pretty bad after a fall with broken antennas, so I decided to keep both AC1700s. One will be the main node and distribute IP addresses via DHCP, and the other will be configured as an access point, expanding the coverage area. Maybe. I've used my other ASUS for about three to four years and have been happy with it and what it offers. I think the ASUS line is very good.
