Retired engineer with a few old lathes and "bad eye sight" - that's me. At under $300, these DRO's work for me. I don't work in the environment which is sub 0.0005". For the money, it's hard to beat. I have levels which cost more then this 20 years ago. You have to understand how to "tram" these things in to get you accuracy. They supply a few brackets, but you'll likely need to make more and modify what they provide.In the end, it's a "deal". I've installed 2 of these things, and depending on the machine, you'll do a bit of fitting. If you're just a hobbiest, you've got a "small project". For the experienced, it's pretty easy.
