Great compact bass/subwoofer solution priced at

. Bought this to replace the Creative T40 2.0 setup for better bass response and less desk space. Of course, I didn't expect them to be better than Creative's more expensive speakers, but I also didn't expect them to be significantly worse given the specs. There's a hole in the sound between the mid and low range that no amount of EQ can fix. This is most likely due to the way the crossovers are set up, making it difficult for audiophiles to recommend. That's a shame as the stick speakers themselves are very crisp and clear and could reproduce lower frequencies than are being sent from the amp, especially as they contain a passive radiator and decent internal volume for their footprint. The passive radiator in between is not just for show, because it moves around quite a bit, especially at higher volumes. Despite these issues, my purchase wasn't a total loss as the subwoofer can be used separately from the standard speakers. My fallback plan was to use it with Creative speakers if I don't like sticks. Bass is what sets this system apart. You can feel the bass almost as well as hear it. It's powerful enough to cause unwanted noise from vibrating things around, so you may need to remove/fix anything that might be rattling around your PC. This is a real problem for any sub. For example, my 12-inch subwoofer makes my kitchen cabinets shake if they're not securely closed. For the price you won't get a better standalone subwoofer for your setup. They're not kidding when they say it rattles. Just like your knock, you're sure to find it here. At higher volumes, particularly in the 150-300Hz range, distortion is clearly present, but at normal listening levels it's clean enough for most applications, including video/movie viewing. I Rate the subwoofer at around 60-150Hz, although it can be slightly below 60Hz with reduced audibility. Raise the bottom end of your existing speaker system, this is for you.
