I get on with these things pretty quickly because they're brittle, fall apart and melt after repeated use. However, they perform a function that no other soldering pads can perform: they allow the raised parts to be built into the block so that it is held and these parts (wires, pins, faceplates) are protected from the heat of the torch. And since you can insert at different depths, you can also control the position of the attachment point and make contact better than with a third hand. Ideal for attaching adapter rings to a pin or bezel. Cut a slot for the adapter ring, insert the frame or bezel in contact with the ring and solder. Great as a heatsink and holder for those tiny parts.
