Great for a kid too!
Gave this camera to my 8 year old nephew. He loves to. It took him about a nanosecond to figure out how to use it and he knew all the features on day one. We were on vacation together and ALWAYS in his hands. He showed me his photos and they are of surprisingly good quality. The waterproofing came in handy because we were out in the snow a lot. The gold frame around the lens looks pretty cool with the yellow he told me and I have to agree. PS Don't forget to buy a SIM card (like me). Luckily there was a replacement in our group.
