4.5 stars! - my new review

Only dinged this below a 5 score because it is a rip off for what it is.however, it worked! I loved the split die set up, I had butchered threads at the end of my drag link and I filed it down first to make round again, then placed this on the good threads and backed it off to rethread.did this a couple times and then the nut went right on.

Pros
  • Thing is an absolute lifesaver. Way better than a conventional die
Cons
  • The price of the product may be too high for budget-conscious shoppers

Great solution on my review.

This Baby worked like a dream! I had to use vise grips to hold the two halves tightly together though and run it back and forth over the trouble spot on my lug stud.

Pros
  • With its compact and lightweight design, this thread chaser is easy to store and transport, making it a convenient tool to have on hand for emergency repairs or routine maintenance
Cons
  • The product may be difficult to use for those with limited experience or knowledge in thread repair

Saved me some serious time/cash

I was able to repair a damaged lug bolt on a car that otherwise would have had me tearing apart my suspension or taking a grinder to it in order to replace. Really cool design that saved the day.

Pros
  • By repairing threads on existing wheel studs and bolts, the Steelman Thread Chaser can help save time and money that would otherwise be spent on complete part replacements
Cons
  • The indexing pins may cause damage if not aligned correctly with the threads being repaired

Could work better - my new review

If this had cap screws instead of pins it would be excellent. As it was I used vice-grips to hold it closed. Tedious but it did the job.

Pros
  • The inclusion of indexing pins ensures that the chaser is easy to use and helps to ensure accurate and precise thread repairs every time
Cons
  • The Steelman 7/16-20 SAE Split Die Thread Chaser may not be easily accessible or available at certain retailers or stores

Eh. Not a favorite. Would NOT buy again.

Does what it is supposed to BUT it's a pain in the butt to get the pins lined up and in all the way. I HIGHLY recommend getting a hindged unit instead. It's a million times easier to use.

Pros
  • Hardened steel - made of heat-treated and hardened skd11 high carbon and chromium alloy steel
Cons
  • The product may require frequent lubrication or maintenance to maintain optimal performance

works great best in my review

I need to fix a small area on a rear lug nut. It took a couple of times but the threader allowed the stripped lug to restore to use again. Good for quick refinish but I would not recommend threading an entire lug nut.

Pros
  • Saved me plenty of $$$ not have had the whole plate of 5 replaced!
Cons
  • The indexing pins may not align correctly with the threads being repaired, causing inaccuracies

worked great best in my review

worked great on my 1959 thunderbird. Was worried that i was going to have to replace the studs but this saved it. That's my review.

Pros
  • Used to repair threads on wheel stud
Cons
  • The split die might slide off the bolt or stud while in use

Saved me $90 in my review

Product worked as expected. I buggered the threads on a new strut I was installing on my car. Couldn’t get the nut to start. Used this to chase the threads. Saved my fromHaving to buy another $90 strut. Will buy more of these in the future for other repairs.

Pros
  • cleaned a damaged wheel stud. worked well.
Cons
  • The 7/16-20 size may not be practical for certain applications

Great product: my feedback

While shipping was a little slow, the steelman chased the threads on four wheel studs in ten minutes. It was worth the wait. I’m glad I did not have to replace the studs. That would have taken hours. Great product.

Pros
  • The Steelman 7/16-20 SAE Split Die Thread Chaser is an incredibly useful tool for repairing threads on wheel studs and bolts, making it a valuable addition to any automotive toolkit
Cons
  • The indexing pins may break due to excessive force or stress during use

Life saver: my feedback

I had 3 wheel studs in very bad shape after a tire shop messed them up , this chaser worked amazing on them. That's my review.

Pros
  • Prevent cross threading - split die design allows repairs to start behind the damaged threads
Cons
  • The product may not fit properly in certain types of die handles or holders

Worth Every Penny good for me

This was a great addition to the tool box and after this experience I will be buy the whole set.I had 3 mangled studs on my dodge (9/16 18) and I was concerned that I would not be able to get a normal hex chaser on the end. With this thing I came from behind and cleaned up the threads. I would have been required to pull the axle in order to replace the studs. But not with this tool!Use oil to help ease the cuttingClean the die during the processUse 1 3/8" socket

Pros
  • Built well
Cons
  • The split die may become warped or distorted with repeated use

Split design A+: my feedback

I messed up my crank bolt and a new one is not available. This split design worked perfect so I could start on good threads instead of bad threads.

Pros
  • The 7/16-20 SAE size of the die makes it compatible with a wide range of wheel studs and bolts, allowing for greater versatility and usefulness in a variety of automotive repair situations
Cons
  • The product may not be able to repair threads on bolts or studs with non-standard thread pitches or sizes

Did the Job straitening out my striped lug nuts.

Using a socket wrench didn't hold it tight enough around the lug but allowed it to expand a little. I used vice grip pliers sideways to clamp them tight to get a good cut. use a little oil. I had my teenagers change out my studded tires and they cross threaded several lugs with the impact wrench.I saw other ones had a rubber band around them in a slot. I didn't realize that would keep falling on the ground while I was trying to position them. Not a problem after the first one.You must remove…

Pros
  • Great experience
Cons
  • The product may not be durable enough to handle heavy-duty repairs

Great for cleaning up studs

2009 Ram had a few studs with mashed up threads, not bad enough to want to pull apart and make a project out of it. worked great! I ended up not having a socket big enough to I just electrical taped the halves together and spun it on/off each a few times by hand. worked fine.

Pros
  • The tools are of good quality and the carrying case is convenient. A good value.
Cons
  • The product may not be compatible with certain types of lubricants or thread sealants
