I would buy one size bigger. We bought a 3-4T for our slim 3 and a half year old who is currently a size 4 and is 41" tall and the jacket sizing was not as wide as we expected based on the clothing sizes listed. We are swapping for a size 5T so that we can wear a boiled wool coat underneath in colder temperatures and use it for at least two years. For the record, we bought her a size 2 in an older (non-revised) version when she was a year and a half and she was still able to wear it this year, but we're passing it along. Perhaps in this version the sizes were more generous.
