These shoes are very durable. My 4 year old can wear them all day and get her tops and toes dirty and they haven't fallen apart yet. The sole is a bit thick, which is to be expected from a traditional hiking shoe. However, it may be a bit thick and hard for a child. Remember. They're really durable and shaped like traditional trail running shoes. It's nice that the ankle of this shoe is low, which allows little ones to move their ankles more easily, which is important for balance at this age. Great shoe that should endure a lot of street wear from an active toddler!
