The working part of this piston is stuck in the retracted position. You press, the cup collapses as it should, but stays folded. Then you need to figure out how to reset it. I decided to reset it by resting the top of the plunger cup against the rim of the cup and pulling it back. It then bounces and splashes all the water (and whatever dirt is in that water) at you and everything around you in the bathroom. Get ready to shower or at least change your clothes after using this plunger. I'm glad I didn't throw away the old wooden grip butt from the 70's. You don't have to shower after the application!
