design flaw! The mic switch *is* a mic and will activate when the switch is off!

I specifically ordered this headset because it had a physical microphone switch. The ability to electrically mute your mic during a meeting to ensure no one hears you when they shouldn't, no matter what the software is doing is extremely important, especially in the wake of COVID, and variants of this design are the only headphones available right now . on Revain promoting this feature. Unfortunately, advertising is the working word here, because this headset doesn't. However, other reviews are not entirely accurate as to what it actually does, which is why I am writing this review. Several other reviewers believe that muting the mic causes the iPhone to switch to the built-in mic. While I can't be sure that the iPhone won't switch to the internal mic as I don't have one to test (maybe it will detect an impedance change or something and switch), this seems unlikely as there is another mechanism at work here, making the switch unusable no matter what the headset is plugged into. Others seem to think it just mutes the headset mic, and that's not true either. It completely disables that mic, but only that mic. The real problem is that the switch itself is a microphone, sensitive enough to pick up your voice at a low level, even when it's a few feet from your mouth. This can be tested by turning off the microphone on the headset, unplugging the quick-disconnect cable from the headset with the other end still connected, and talking to the switch itself. Your voice will sound loud and clear even though the headset mic is muted in two different ways. And the farther you are from the switch, the less it picks up - there's definitely something in the switch box itself that acts like a microphone. That's another design flaw, by the way: the switch sits under the gap and sits nearly four feet from the headset and just 2.5 feet from the device it's connected to. The photos in the description don't show this very accurately, and with good reason, because the switch hangs too low to be easily reached when you need it, and using a lapel clip to hold it higher will hurt you the safety measures by the breakable plug! It's a real shame because the headset itself is well designed, comfortable to wear, with decent sound quality for a device of this type and a microphone that can be rotated in any direction to wear it on either side of the head. That's why it gets two stars rather than one - if you really don't care about the mute switch it's not a bad headset, although in that case you could probably get better bang for your buck by looking at devices without a switch. . But the main benefit for me was the mute switch in the cable, and that was defective initially, so back to Revain.
