I used to have a Galaxy Note 3 and a USB 3.0 OTG cable so I could connect it to my Canon 6D and use it as an external video display. After my Note 3 finally failed I switched to a Galaxy S8+ which uses a USB-C connector so my old OTG cable is obsolete. Got this and it works great. I can connect to my camera and use my fancy new phone for even better picture quality than my old Note 3. The response time is amazing and there is almost no lag between the phone screen and the camera screen. So if you're wondering if this works when you connect your phone to the camera, yes it will! I haven't tried just connecting my phone to the camera without using a file transfer app or using a DSLR controller to turn my phone into an external screen/controller, but it works fine with those apps .
