Review on Racor PLB-2R Garage Wall Mount Bike Rack Stand by Sheila King

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Exactly what we needed!

Honestly I didn't know what to expect. The reviews were mostly good until they turned bad. I wasn't sure if it would fit our bikes. I was very pleased. FINALLY the bikes are off the ground and don't have to be moved anymore! It was easy to collect them. It wobbles a bit but once you put bikes on it it stabilizes very well. It fits well in the room. It was a little crooked when I originally assembled it, but that was the only part that could be turned upside down (the bottom bar with the keyhole mounts). I turned it over and it stood up a lot straighter. My garage has a strip of cement on the floor about 3-4 inches deep, at this point it's about an inch from the foundation. This does not affect the stability at all. Still in the range where the base would have worked anyway. My bike is a women's hybrid, small (I'm tall but have very short legs lol), my husband has an XL hybrid frame, let's put it that way, not heavy. I had several concerns. First, a top bar wouldn't prevent my bike from working on this rack (although it does work for women's bikes). Will stability be affected? Third, does it matter which bike is on top or bottom? Because there was no way I could raise or lower my bike above my head when mine was supposed to go overhead. I'm tall but not strong enough for this clumsiness. 1) had to experiment a bit but we found the right angle and height for the hooks to hold my bike. I really think it would be easier if I could get one of those temporary poles you use for a car rack. But it also works without it. It also helps small hooks rotate but not dangle. I would suggest following the instructions, removing the cap, loosening and tightening the screws inside as instructed so as not to tear the handle off. 2.) It feels very secure without using a straight bar. At first I thought it wouldn't work, but I turned my bike over so the broken wires were on the outside instead of getting tangled in the hook. (no idea if that makes sense) 3.) Which bike is on top or bottom. I was surprised that putting my husband first made more sense. I would think you would put a heavier (though not by much) bike on the floor. But I was too embarrassed to reach the bike as I should. So we tried it from above. it worked and the frame was surprisingly stable. We were able to lower mine to the ground and I verified the stability and ease of assembly and disassembly. I have to be a bit more careful with this than I probably should have with straight top bars, but it's doable and I don't feel like it's going to fall on me when it's up. Very successful! This time we will not attach it to the wall. Mainly because it was the only corner we had left and there's a gas pipe in that wall. But we don't have kids and it's far from the main road so it shouldn't be in the way or bumping into traffic and stuff like that. I definitely recommend it. I inserted a photo. It doesn't look like it, but my bike is off the ground and not touching me. We also think that if a spinning wheel bothers us, we'll get one of those Velcro straps to line them up so they don't spin. it downloaded.

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Nothing
