I bought the C3 for my 29 gallon planted aquarium as a secondary filter; My main filter was an Eheim Professional 4+ 350. You may be wondering why so much filtration for a smaller tank - well I wanted some redundancy in case my main filter ever fails, which is always good to have, but basically I wanted to be able to change the media for any problems that might arise in the future without having to dismantle the canister filter if I also had one. So let me start with the features and why I prefer these other brands; As far as I know it's second to none when it comes to cooktops with its modular design giving you the ability to change media as needed on the fly without having to remove the entire tray like other cooktops - you want something pury add to remove organic waste or maybe some charcoal to remove drugs and/or tannins from the water column or more biological filtration and finally more mechanical filtration to clean the water? No problem, just remove the drip filter part (also a useful feature that no other hob has), pull out the bowl while maintaining mechanical filtration without having to either turn off the entire pump or remove the entire bowl, all of that contains your supplies. .Proprietary interchangeable first stage foam pads - more specifically, a low-cost replacement for mechanical parts - coarse/fine dual-density media pads in one pad are a welcome addition to getting that extra water clarity you desire - as they work as well as they do will require more service compared to other available filters. Of course, when it comes down to it, you can go the homemade media route, but for the price they sell it for, unless you have rolls of media, you'll have a hard time going homemade to save money. These are warnings so I don't know how to rate this product although I would like to rate it a 5. As other reviewers have said, it's quite noisy and I knew maybe other reviewers I read might have the same issue before I bought it. Noise is my main reason for not giving this thing more stars. On the other hand, if you ask me, it's also fairly cheaply made: the plastic seems brittle and cheap, which makes the asking price seem unreasonable - it's like a $5-$10 product compared to plastic. Material such as housing, cover and inlet pipe; The only durable parts are the mechanical spacing module, drip tray, and chemical tray. As neat as the inkjet part of the filter; It has its downsides as it is unfiltered water. In my experience, the bio-strainer clogs up fairly quickly - in the short time I've had water, it has already pooled at the opposite end of the spout and some of that unfiltered water runs entirely over the edge of the spout swivel and back into the aquarium. Well, for some reason bioscreens, which are quite small, are almost double the price of foam pads - when it comes to DIY bioscreens I don't know of any alternative.
