Doesn't work, poor design

I have a new standard American toilet (1.6 gallons per flush) with a 2" valve that has been misbehaving. installed several toilets and replaced fill valves on several toilets many times. I replaced the factory valve with this Fluidmaster valve since it was advertised as being adjustable from 1.6 gallons to 3.5 gallons. What a disappointment! First of all, it will NOT deliver a 1.6 gallon flush regardless of the setting. Each setting leads to a complete emptying of the tank. I adjusted it with many, MANY flushes throughout the range while watching the shock. It rises, stays on top, and doesn't fall until the shock is almost completely out of the water. It also has the following design flaws: The plastic bracket that holds the rubber shock itself has a cornered cutout just below the chain attachment point. This is ideal for grabbing the chain when the gate is in the vertical "flush" position. Then, when the clasp is lowered, it stays open because the chain got caught in that little notch. This happens about 30% of the time, requiring movement of the handle to release the chain and close the clasp. Also, the bottom of the shock—the flat part that forms the gasket—doesn't always seal well. I have never seen another flapper with this problem. There is something in the form of a piston on the bottom or on the valve that sometimes allows the valve to fall off offset leaving a gap for water to leak through. Again, shaking the handle is required to properly seal it. In part, this may be due to the tank constantly being emptied, leaving very little water pressure to push the shock into a fixed position. As if the designers intentionally tried to make a bad product. Save yourself the frustration and get a factory shock or a regular non-adjustable shock.
