Review on ๐Ÿšด Enhance your Cycling Performance with the DT Swiss 36T Star Ratchet Upgrade Kit by Caleb Quade

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great to have - but come on DT Swiss - why are they so expensive?!?

I mounted these star ratchets on my old quick release hub, the hardest part was removing the end cap. I used a QR skewer and inserted it from the other side (same side as the brake disc). Instead of pushing it through the hole, I deliberately pressed it against the inside of the lid and pushed the lid out (may need to be gently tapped with a tool). The bushing was easy to pick up and remove (be careful the ratchets and springs are loose at this point) and only needs to be reassembled with the new star ratchets and lube. It works great and I enjoy the reduced pressure angle. It even sounds a bit more like a bee (think King or Industry Nine) but not as loud as those hubs. Some lengthen the spring to make the sound louder, but I'm more concerned with performance and reliability than sound. The only question (and why I gave 4 stars and not 5) is why are they so expensive? They can't cost more than $10 (and I'd be surprised if it was that much). I understand everyone needs to make some money so sell them for $50. But almost $100? Anyone who needs this item has already invested in the newer DT Swiss hub, which wasn't cheap to begin with. Why not include bushings as standard or make them more affordable to purchase later? I conceded the award as it's my hobby and I love bike parts. I mourned the purchase for months before I pulled the trigger. I think they could sell more and have happier customers if they lowered the price.
