works great. I have a new car with second row captain seats. I've always used crossbars at the top that attach to the headrests. But now I needed something to close the gap between the seats. It does the job. The only tricky part was figuring out where to attach the bottom straps to secure them in place. My second row seats slide back and forth, so it's not a stationary "leg" to get caught on. Eventually I found a metal bar under the third row seats (which are folded down) and attached a strap to it. The dogs that go there don't really try to assert themselves because they are used to this type of landing. I think it will work for beginners, but a stubborn dog will probably get the hang of it because it's not as dense as mine!
